SYNAPSES-ESMS: AI to give social workers more time for care.
SYNAPSES-ESMS is a platform that uses AI to automate administrative tasks for social workers (reports, transcription, anonymization). It is developed using modern web technologies and artificial intelligence tools. The goal is to free up time so that professionals can focus on providing human support.

SYNAPSES-ESMS: AI to give social workers more time for care.
Introduction
As digital tools continue to transform professional environments, technology is increasingly being used to reduce repetitive administrative work and improve efficiency. SYNAPSES-ESMS is one of these innovative projects, developed by students enrolled in the Full-Stack Web Development Specialization at Holberton France. Designed for social and healthcare professionals, the platform leverages artificial intelligence to automate documentation tasks and allow users to focus more on supporting people.
An AI-powered platform for social care professionals
The main objective of SYNAPSES-ESMS is to simplify the daily administrative workload of social workers and caregivers. Many professionals spend a significant amount of time writing reports, organizing documents, and handling sensitive information.
To address this challenge, the platform uses AI to transcribe audio recordings, automatically format reports, anonymize personal data, and generate documents. By automating these time-consuming tasks, the project aims to free up valuable time that can be dedicated to direct human support and care.
A project built with modern web technologies
SYNAPSES-ESMS is developed as a full-stack web application using a modern technology stack.
On the frontend, the team relies on React, Vite, and Tailwind CSS to create a responsive and user-friendly interface. The backend is built with Python, Flask, and PostgreSQL, providing a reliable foundation for data management and application logic.
The project also integrates several external services and AI-powered tools to process audio recordings, generate content, and support document automation, making artificial intelligence a central component of the platform.
Technical challenges and learning experience
Developing SYNAPSES-ESMS involved several technical challenges that closely resemble those encountered in professional software projects.
One of the main difficulties was managing continuous feature updates, as new requests and modifications often appeared after features had already been integrated into the application.
The team also faced production-like deployment challenges by testing the platform on a VPS environment using Docker and Nginx, helping them gain experience with real-world deployment practices.
Another important challenge was handling external APIs securely, particularly managing API keys and protecting sensitive project data.
Finally, integrating the frontend and backend required careful coordination, as differences in naming conventions between the two systems sometimes created communication and compatibility issues.
A project with real-world impact
Beyond its technical achievements, SYNAPSES-ESMS demonstrates how artificial intelligence can be applied to solve practical challenges in the social and healthcare sectors. By reducing administrative workload and automating repetitive processes, the platform helps professionals dedicate more of their time to what matters most: supporting people.
